Hardware Requirements

Ovation can be used with a virtual reality headset or a computer monitor. These are referred to as VR Mode and Monitor Mode. Ovation's hardware requirements differ depending on which Mode you use.

Monitor Mode

You should have a computer with the following recommended specifications:

  • Operating System: Windows (10 or newer) / macOS (Catalina or newer)

  • CPU: Intel i5 (6th Gen.) / AMD Ryzen 5 or greater

  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 950 / AMD R9 380 or greater

  • Graphics Card Memory (VRAM): 4GB or greater

  • Memory: 16GB+ RAM

  • Hard Drive Available Space: 5GB+

  • Microphone (internal or external)

If your computer does not meet the recommended specifications above, you may still be able to use Ovation. There are various graphical settings within the software that can be adjusted to improve performance. You can also use Ovation's trial period to determine whether your computer is powerful enough.

Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows & (New!) Apple macOS

When used in Monitor Mode, Ovation is available for computers running on Microsoft Windows or macOS operating systems.

Ovation is not compatible with Apple computers using the new "Apple Silicon" (e.g. M1 CPU).

VR Mode

The hardware that Ovation requires in VR Mode can be split into two major components: a computer and a VR headset.

Computer (VR-Ready PC)

Most virtual reality hardware and software pushes up against the limits of modern computer processing power. Ovation is no exception with its demanding Recording, Analytics, and Audience systems. As such, you will need a powerful computer with the following minimum specifications*:

  • Operating System: Windows 10

  • CPU: Intel i7 (7th Gen.) / AMD Ryzen 7 or greater

  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1070 / AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 or greater**

  • Graphics Card Memory (VRAM): 4GB or greater

  • Memory: 16GB+ RAM

  • Hard Drive Available Space: 5GB+

  • USB Ports: 1x USB 3.0***

*Headsets with especially high-resolution screens, such as the HP Reverb G2, require more powerful components.

**Most laptop graphics cards are significantly less powerful than their desktop equivalents. The graphics cards noted above refer to the desktop variants.

VR Headset

Ovation is designed for — and has only been tested with — the Oculus Rift and Rift S, HTC Vive, Vive Pro, and Vive Pro Eye, Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, and most Windows Mixed Reality headsets. We make no guarantees that it will run on any alternative virtual reality hardware.

Standalone Headsets (Oculus Quest and Quest 2, Go, Vive Focus, etc.)

Ovation is not compatible with standalone or mobile VR headsets because it requires a computer to power the realistic environments, life-like audience, and extensive processing of speech-performance analytics.

Exception: Oculus has announced Link and AirLink, which enable Quest headsets to connect to a computer. When connected, Quest acts like a Rift headset and can run various PC-VR applications, including Ovation.

Operating System

When used in VR Mode, Ovation is only available for computers running on the Microsoft Windows operating system; it is not available for Apple's macOS or Linux.

Other Considerations

Always-On Internet Connection: Ovation requires an active connection to authenticate the subscription status of the user, enable various voice features via third-party speech-to-text, and backup and sync data with the Ovation cloud.
